L.A.’s Best Bets for a Bodacious Burger

There are tons of fabulous burgers being grilled in food trucks, little diners, and sleek kitchens all across Southern California. If you have a craving for a really juicy burger in the Valley, Santa Monica, or downtown LA, you’ve got many options. Here are some great burger eateries open 7 days a week:

HiHo Cheeseburger

1320 2nd Street B, Santa Monica
HiHo Triple Cheeseburger ($9.95): This fast-casual burger stand comes to Santa Monica by way of Ojai. Touted as the only burger place that exclusively serves 100% grass-fed Wagyu beef, HiHo prides itself on serving only the best, most tender beef from cattle that is served nothing but grass. HiHo’s beef is not only delicious, but also healthy. Purchased from a collective group of 61 farmers, HiHo’s beef is lower in saturated fat, higher in heart-healthy Omega-3s, vitamins, and antioxidants, and never, ever contains even a hint of antibiotics, GMOs, or hormones. The HiHo Triple Cheeseburger contains ½ pound of Wagyu beef, dressed with cheese and ketchup! All burgers are available in a lettuce wrap and can be ordered with more (or less) toppings. The eatery also serves wine and beer, real sugar colas, organic shakes, and some tasty sides, including hand-made pickles!

Holy Grill Restaurant

8975 W. Pico Blvd (Pico and Crest), Los Angeles
The Holy Burger ($13): With everything on the menu made fresh daily at this glatt kosher certified restaurant, it’s no surprise The Holy Grill Restaurant on W. Pico Boulevard attracts even loyal patrons with more Americanized taste buds. While everything on the menu is mouth-watering and appealing, the Holy Burger is the best bet for the burger loving guest. Made with two beef patties, grilled pastrami, and a sunny-side-up egg – all topped with a red onion and a creamy barbecue sauce – come hungry because it’s filling! The Holy Burger goes great with their sliced eggplant chips, too! Once you’ve tried The Holy Burger, you’ll be tempted to order it every time you visit this popular Israeli grill bar (and rightly so); however, their crispy breaded chicken breast schnitzel burger and their House Kabob Burger are well worth a try, too! The Crispy Schnitzel is served on a fresh pretzel bun with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and the Holy Grill’s creamy BBQ sauce. The Kabob Burger is seasoned ground beef served with a red onion, tomato pickles, lettuce, and house dressing. If you’re in downtown LA, stop by their food truck to pick up your Holy Burger Combo with a drink and chips ($15); located at 120 E.15th Street, the Holy Grill Food Truck serves its famous fares Mondays through Fridays, 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Burger Lounge

4550 Van Nuys Boulevard, Suite E, Los Angeles
The Husky ($10.95): Serving up “the original grass-fed burger” at their many locations, the Burger Lounge offers fantastic burgers for meat lovers, turkey lovers, and quinoa veggie lovers. If it’s a traditional hamburger you have a taste for, however, order The Husky. This double, grass-fed beef burger comes with double America cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, a fresh onion slice, and 1000 Island dressing. All of their handcrafted burgers are prepared medium unless otherwise specified. The Husky goes great with their house-made light and crispy onion rings, too! They also serve local craft beer, milkshakes and floats, salads, side dishes, and popular foods on their kids’ menu.

Five Guys

12930 Ventura Boulevard, Suite 106, Studio City

The Burger ($7+): Offering handcrafted burgers since 1986, this now-nationwide burger joint has been known to be now frequented by folks who are not traditionally meat-lovers! Every burger grilled at Five Guys is per order and made fresh while you wait. You can get it with grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, and/or grilled Jalapeño or green peppers, or order a double-patty burger with cheese, bacon, hot sauce, or A1 sauce! They’ll prepare it however you want! While many of the toppings are free, the price of the burger depends upon whether you want it with double meat, cheese, and/or bacon. The Five Guys Burger goes great with their popular fresh-cut potatoes cooked in pure, no-cholesterol, 100% peanut oil served Five Guys or Cajun style.

Father’s Office

1018 Montana Avenue, Santa Monica
The Office Burger ($12.50): This cool and cozy gastropub’s mission is to create the world’s best craft beers with their great gourmet food (don’t ask for additions or substitutions!) Covered with crunchy Applewood bacon, arugula, caramelized onions, and bleu cheese, The Office is a burger in a category all its own not only because of how tasty the beef is, but also because of the innovative and usual combination of toppings. The burger goes great with the joint’s over-roasted and seasoned Brussel sprouts or sweet potato fries, and any one of the 36 (!) beers in rotation and on tap at this nationally-acclaimed little pub!
